STATEMENT Painting outdoors has always been important to me. Although my paintings are not necessarily a realistic interpretation of what I see, my subject matter almost always involves the landscape and nature. Developing horizontal bands of color with a minimum of shading, I create atmospheric space and perspective.
I enjoy the feel of working with the brush to create soft washes, letting the colors run together freely. I don’t often put figures into my paintings, and I like to think of the places I create as peaceful and tranquil, set apart from the daily routine. My objective is to create a mood or a feeling. My finished painting is successful when I have been able to blend the colors while still retaining the glow of my original choices.
